Morrie Anderson, a member of the Silver Run Ski Club, formed and organized the local National Ski Patrol in 1940. His fellow volunteer patrolmen were Harlan Thompson, Larry Van Etta, Fred Penwell, John Andsberry, Kenny Hancock, and Art Miller. The Patrol functioned separately from the Silver Run Ski Club, although all patrol members were also Club members.

The Patrol had one toboggan for transporting injured skiers at the Willow Creek Ski Area. The Silver Run Ski Club and the Red Lodge Winter Sports Association contributed $40 to the Patrol treasury. Additional funds were raised through a raffle and 5 cents for every ski ticket sold. The treasury swelled to nearly $200 and the Patrol purchased toboggans, blankets, litters, and first aid equipment.

The Patrol relocated to Shangri-La ski area when it opened, however they returned to Willow Creek after a forest fire forced the abandonment of Shangri-La. Morrie Anderson was instrumental in the transition from the Silver Run Ski Patrol to the Beartooth Ski Patrol in 1954. When the Grizzly Peak Ski Area opened in 1960, the organization was in place to transfer operations to that area. The patrol belt hanging in Summit Hut was worn by Dr. Bruce Anderson, a long time member of Beartooth Ski Patrol. Volunteers became paid staff in 1988.
